Hollywood Hills – La La Land Series

Morning lovelies! Happy Sunday 🙂

Now that my blog is up and running, I wanted to start doing travel posts of the places I have visited in the last little while.

First up, Los Angeles. I will be doing this post in parts and will feature each of the places/sections of the city we visited during our time there.

This was a very unexpected mini-vacation. We weren’t planning on going anywhere but as soon as the cold hits Toronto, I am engulfed by a severe need to get away!! I am sure others can relate! So, we decided to go to LA since I had never been and wanted to visit this city of surf, sun and sand. I have to say, I fell in love with the constant rays of sunshine that this city is showered with. It felt great to wake up every morning, look out the window and just see beautiful warm sunlight washing down the rooftops and streets lined with palm trees.

The vegan scene here is amazing, there’s lots to explore and discover in the city, great shopping neighbourhoods and everything is a short drive away. We chose to use Uber & Lyft vs. driving as A. LA traffic is notorious B. We didn’t want to worry about driving back to our pad at the end of ahem…a night of drinking and fun 🙂 We chose to live at an Airbnb in Marina Del Ray and the host was awesome. She gave us a total lowdown on best places to eat at and explore. She was an artist so she even gave us a list of best art installations, museums and parks to check out. Which is why I love Airbnbs and the whole idea of going local vs. hotel-ing.

On one of the days, we decided to visit the Hollywood Hills and trek up to the sign. We meant to wake up early but that didn’t happen and once we got to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, we walked around and were trying to figure out the best way to get to the sign as quickly as possible. I had done my research and knew there were two different paths I could take. But both Joel and I weren’t really in the mood to hike because access to the sign has been closed off for sometime now and you can’t really take good pictures from behind the sign. So, I did a little more digging and found some other ways in which you can get good photo-ops with the sign. We called a cab to get us to a park in Mullholland Drive that I had read offered great views of the sign. When we got there, we noticed it was a dog park and you could see the sign so clearly and well! Our Uber driver was a local but he had never discovered this little secret park (god bless the internet!) that was great for viewing the sign and didn’t require any trekking. He even offered to drive us up the winding and hilly road a little further so we could be even closer to the sign!

Once there, we took some great shots.

Have you been to LA? Do you have any favourite spots to take pictures of the sign from? Let me know in the comments 🙂
